Spring sunset

sunset, Shenandoah Valley
Spring Sunset.

One thing about photographing sunsets is certain. You have to be at the right place at the right time to capture the beauty.

As I was driving desperately trying to find the perfect spot to capture the quickly fading sunset, the colors suddenly brightened. I pulled in the nearest farm lane, pointed my camera and clicked away. Once was enough, as this shot shows. Seconds later, the western sky went gray over the Allegheny Mountains that create the border between Virginia and West Virginia.

“Spring Sunset” is my Photo of the Week.

Writer, marketer, columnist, author, photographer, birder, walker, hiker, husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, township trustee, converted Anabaptist, community activist, my life is crammed with all things people and nature and wonder. My late father gave me this penchant for giving and getting the most out of life, my late mother the courtesy, kindness, and creativity to see the joy in life. They both taught me to cherish the people I am with. I try and fail and try again.

  1. I’ll have to start pulling into farm driveways when I’m inspired! Since the May rains, there has been a large new pond on Green Hill Road at the bottom of a vacant field. It has produced lovely images of the trees and shadows around the edge of the pond. This morning a young deer was paused near the edge of the pond, and the morning sun around 7:15 brightened her turned face, looking at me on the road. I wanted a photo but was sure either the deer or the sun’s moment would be past by the time I parked, crossed the road, and walked through tick-laden tall grass to grab a shot. Nice images in my head though!
