While returning from an exhilarating trip to the Knik Glacier, a bush pilot flew low over our boat in the Knik River. The pilot was shuttling tourists like us for flyovers of the glacier and surrounding mountainous areas.

Have visited Alaska twice … interesting fact: 1 in 4 adults in AK have a pilot’s license. Visited the Knik … interesting fact: most Alaskans swim indoors because the snow and ice melt off during the brief summer leaves the water too cold to tolerate in most rivers and lakes. Love those beautiful mountains!

Thanks, Linda. Everywhere we went in AK, the ratio of people to pilots varied. That’s why I didn’t include it. I’m not sure which one is correct. I also heard that there are 240 towns in AK and 400 airports, not counting the waterways. Bruce

I noticed in Anchorage the school had an indoor pool–I thought, wow, for high school and elementary? This comment by Linda may explain why.

Interesting! I flew 440 hours in NW Ontario, mostly with float and ski landings on lakes, with a single engine Luscombe! This was from 1984-91.

Yes! I needed to fly to take reports to our high school students on the reservations.
