A fellow blogger friend of mine hates Monday mornings. I laugh at his social media ranting and memes about having to start a new work week. I laugh because he’s funny, and I’m mostly retired. What “work” I do do, I do from home.
I’m pretty sure my friend would have loved last Monday morning. The sunrise was brilliant, the colors changing by the moment. Of course, I hustled out with my camera. However, it was what I saw in the western sky that caught my fullest attention. Much like beautiful sunsets reflect in the eastern heavens, the morning’s pinks and blues danced off the neighbor’s buildings and the clouds hanging in the west.
“Reverse Sunrise” is my Photo of the Week.

That”s a fantastic shot, Bruce! You should consider doing a book of your photography. Accompanied by little essays of your thoughts about them – a sort of hybrid of photo journalism about Amish and other tales.

Thanks, Ava. I’ve thought of that, but they are very expense to produce.

Has anyone ever done that sort of book focused on the Amish? It would be nice to have a realistic portrayal of them to counter all the fluff and untruths in the Amish stuff the average person reads and watches. I know Donald Kraybill and other scholars have published good material, but it’s not the sort of stuff the average person reads. Photographs accompanied with short readable essays would have appeal to a much broader audience who are accustomed to today’s visual media. Maybe some major publisher would be interested in doing it considering how much interest there is in the Amish these days.

You would be the perfect person to do a project like that considering your intimate knowledge of their lives on so many levels. I doubt there are any other people with the inside knowledge you have in addition to your writing and photography abilities. I think you should seriously consider it.
